ABSTRACT

Objective To study the influencing factors of digital image white balance of the biological microscope and the way to obtain optimized image. Methods Color temperature meter was used to measure the influences of the factors and their correlations, and SASS software was employed for statistical analysis. Results Object lens might increase the color temperature by 200 to 300 K, LBD color filter could enhance it by 400 to 1 800 K. Reducing field stop by 90% might decrease color temperature by 400 K. ND6 filter, ND25 filter and aperture diaphragm had no influences on color temperature. Conclusion The electric and optical parameters of biological microscope have to be adjusted to gain proper white balance for digital image.

ABSTRACT

In order to maintain objective tongue diagnosis, we have researched a photographic standard and the repeatability of tongue photography, using a Compact Digital Camera (i. e. digital camera).
We photographed the tongues of subjects who held a small color chart on the end of a chopstick.
We were able to reduce the level of reflected camera flash when the camera was held vertically by its upper grip, in such a way that camera flash came from the subjects' upper left. We examined various focal distances, and white balance (W. B.) settings in the camera's Close-up Mode, and obtained well-adjusted photographs with minimal reflection when the focal distance was about 10cm, and the camera's W. B. was set to Flash Mode. Photographs taken under these conditions were highly consistent regardless of place, time, and who the subject or photographer were. We report this photographic standard as recommended for objective tongue photography.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, clinical digital photography is very prevalent, though the pitfalls, problems, and standardizing works of its techniques have not yet been discussed well enough in Korea. Digital single lens reflex cameras and macro capacity lenses are still recommended for plastic surgeons for its reproducibility and high quality of developed photographs. Since the selection of digital camera itself is as important as the choice of the film in film cameras, the selected digital equipments should not be exchanged in a center or a clinic. Eighteen percents gray card(Eastman Kodak) could be used for the strict setting of the white balance as the white balance is essential in digital imaging. Studio flash lighting is good enough in clinical digital photographing settings and, soft, even lighting effect should be achieved using flash accessories (e. g. bouncer) minimizing loss of details. Taken images could be optimized through the software working (image processing) after the monitor color balancing work. They must be always developed or printed under the uniform setup status of the whole equipments to get accurate, constant pictures.
